Project Overview

Lake of the Pines is located north of Sacramento, California in a gated community. The Country Club was founded in the late 1960s after an investment by Boise Cascade, a paper mill with forest land holdings throughout the U.S. Western Lake Properties, the original developer, eventually sold to Boise Cascade to complete the 1,200 acre lake and residential community.

Our work has included long range planning and workshops with club members to explain design improvements and how the renovation work will be phased. Beginning with Hole No. 1, a par-3, we have rebuilt greens, added tees and put in place arbor management protocols to make way to eventual remodeling work.

Long range master planning calls for a new chipping course venue consisting of five individual “holes” that can be enjoyed in multiple ways. “The chipping course, which we have dubbed the Chocolate Chip, will be three separate greens with teeing areas that allow players to move around with chipping and putting contests,” says Richardson.

In addition to the chipping venue, improvements to all 18-holes will be sequenced over a 4-5 year timeframe. Lake of the Pines is operated as a community association with a private club model where property owners have a vested interest in the golf course, lake and community grounds.
